Calling all Groupies!
Do you have a passion for group work and an interest in mentoring others to develop their leadership and group work skills? ASGW is accepting applications from motivated and experienced specialists in group work to serve as mentors for the 2025 ASGW Leadership Institute.
The Leadership Institute is an ASGW special initiative that provides mentorship and leadership opportunities for future group work leaders. Participants are new practitioners, doctoral students in counselor education programs, or recent doctoral graduates. Leadership Institute cohort members will be matched with a mentor based on interests, goals, and availability. Mentors will be expected to engage in mentoring activities as described below.
We are looking for specialists in group work who:
- Have a genuine passion for group work
- Willing to contribute to the professional development of others interested in group work
- Willing to create space in their schedule to connect with mentees
- Willing to support mentees’ pursuit of leadership goals and advanced group skills
What is the level of commitment?
- Engage in mentoring activities 2 hours per month between February 2025 and May 2025.
- Meet with your mentee virtually on a monthly basis at a time that fits both your schedules.
- Before applying as a mentor, please make sure you are available for the following events:
- Leadership Institute Mentorship Launch | Friday, February 7, 2025 5:30pm-6:30pm EST
- Mentor Check-in | Friday, March 21, 2025, 3pm -4pm EST
- Leadership Institute Recognition Ceremony | Friday, May 30,2025 5:30pm-6:30pm EST
How does the matching process work?
Mentors will be asked to share their bios and CVs, including relevant information pertaining to their expertise in group work. These materials will be shared with selected candidates for the leadership institute (prospective mentees). During our first meeting on February 7th, prospective mentees will introduce themselves, highlighting their interests, professional goals for group work, and aspirations as future leaders in the field. Mentors will then be given the opportunity to select cohort members they wish to work with, and this information will be used to guide the mentor-mentee pairing process.
To apply, submit your CV and bio to Dr. Jennifer Culver and Dr. Claire Martin at (jennifer.culver@sru.edu) and (clairemartin@webster.edu) by Friday, January 24, 2025.
