Nyveohn Lundy and Malik Tucker

Nyveohn Lundy is a graduate student at Northcentral University, and from a young age, Nyveohn felt a deep sense of empathy and understanding for others. As a child, she was often the trusted friend on the playground to whom classmates would confide their most personal stories of trauma and hardship. These early experiences sparked a lifelong passion for mental health and a deep commitment to helping others navigate their own struggles. Through these connections, Nyveohn discovered her calling and the importance of emotional support in shaping one’s well-being. Driven by a desire to further understand the complexities of the human mind and emotions, Nyveohn pursued higher education at Sam Houston State University. There, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with a double minor in Business and Human Services. This interdisciplinary background provided her with a well-rounded understanding of mental health, organizational structures, and the human condition, allowing her to approach her future work with a multifaceted perspective.
Currently, Nyveohn is continuing her educational journey at North Central University, where she is working toward her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. Expected to graduate in May 2025 with honors, magna cum laude, she remains dedicated to expanding her knowledge and expertise in the mental health field. Her focus remains on making a lasting impact on the lives of those she serves.
For the past three years, Nyveohn has been an integral part of a community mental health facility, specializing in working with young clients. She is particularly skilled in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), helping young individuals overcome challenges such as anxiety, depression, and trauma, and group therapy. Her compassionate approach and ability to build strong, trusting relationships with her clients have made her an asset to the team and the community. Additionally, Nyveohn utilized her creative arts skills to introduce dance therapy with clients, creating a space for youth of all walks of life to express themselves through a riveting self-care experience. Outside of her professional work, Nyveohn enjoys dancing and reading in her free time. Whether it’s moving to her favorite music or immersing herself in a captivating book, these activities offer her a sense of balance and relaxation as she continues her work in the mental health field. With her academic accomplishments, hands-on experience, and deep compassion, Nyveohn is well on her way to becoming a trusted advocate for mental health, helping others overcome their personal challenges and find the strength to move forward.
Malik Tucker is a graduate student at Texas A&M Texarkana, his journey into the mental health field began in an unexpected yet deeply meaningful way. While working at a campus coffee shop during his time at Texas A&M Texarkana, he became the confidante for many of his peers. As they shared their stories of upbringing, personal challenges, and struggles with mental health, Malik found himself deeply moved by the experiences of others. These interactions ignited a passion for understanding human behavior and a strong desire to make a positive impact on others’ lives. It was in these conversations that Malik realized his calling was to support individuals through their own healing journeys. His academic path was shaped by this newfound purpose. Malik earned his Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Texas A&M Texarkana, where he gained a comprehensive understanding of social structures, behaviors, and the factors that contribute to mental health. He furthered his education at the same university, earning a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with honors. Through his graduate studies, he refined his clinical skills and deepened his commitment to helping individuals facing mental health challenges. This is where Malik’s passion for group work sparked. Malik’s professional experience reflects his dedication to a diverse range of populations in need. He worked at a drug and rehabilitation center for men, providing critical support to individuals working through addiction and trauma, and leading groups. Additionally, he gained valuable experience at community mental health centers, where he worked with preschool-aged children and adolescents. His work in these settings provided him with insight into the unique mental health challenges that young people face, as well as the resilience they possess. In addition to his clinical roles, Malik volunteered at a children’s hospital for disabled children, offering support and comfort to families in need. Additionally, Malik has led several major diversity groups at Texas A&M Texarkana. These solution-based groups focused on making changes on campus with programs such as “love the skin you’re in” and a town hall discussing racism and discrimination. Outside of his professional and academic pursuits, Malik is passionate about the arts. He enjoys spending his free time exploring film, music, and poetry, all of which offer him a creative outlet and a way to unwind. He also values his social connections and frequently participates in social events with friends, finding joy in the community and companionship they provide. With a heart for service and a diverse background in mental health, Malik is committed to helping individuals overcome their struggles and find healing. His personal experiences, academic achievements, and professional journeys have all prepared him to be a compassionate and dedicated counselor, offering support to those in need and making a meaningful difference in their lives.
Together, Nyveohn and Malik are combining their expertise in group work and their deep understanding of human behavior to address the challenges many adolescents and adults face in relationships. Their upcoming project will focus on building healthy relationships between adolescents and parents and assisting couples in navigating difficult times. Through group work and research, they aim to raise awareness and offer support to these populations, contributing to the emotional well-being of the communities they serve.
Nyveohn and Malik, thank you for your contributions to the field of group work!!!
