Ana Puig, PhD, NCC, LMHC-S
Dr. Ana Puig (she/her/ella) is Clinical Professor and Research Director in the Office of Educational Research, College of Education at the University of Florida (UF) and Affiliate Faculty in the School of Human Development and Organizational Studies in Education, Counselor Education unit. She is a licensed mental health counselor and qualified supervisor in the state of Florida and a National Certified Counselor with over 30 years of clinical experience in mental health counseling and group work.
Dr. Puig holds a Spirituality and Health certificate from the Center for Spirituality and Health at UF. Her areas of specialization are multicultural spirituality and religion in counseling, complementary therapies and mental health, creativity in counseling and supervision, and group work. She has published numerous refereed articles and book chapters and presented her scholarship on these and related topics in the United States and internationally. She served as lead editor of two volumes of special issues for the Journal of Specialists in Group Work (2015) that were subsequently published as a book by Taylor & Francis.
More recently, Dr. Puig led a team of co-authors in publishing an introduction to counseling textbook, Foundations in Becoming a Professional Counselor: Advocacy, Social Justice, and Intersectionality (Springer, 2023) and is co-editor of an interdisciplinary text, Personal and Institutional Transformation in Higher Education through Mindfulness (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, under contract). She served as ASGW president (2019-2020) and proudly brought its biennial conference to her native island of Puerto Rico. She considers this event one of the highlights of her career. Dr. Puig is a fellow of the American Counseling Association (2020) and the Association for Specialists in Group Work (2022).
